Intranet / Extranet
A number of client initiatives call for an online presence that is not slated for public consumption. These types of closed networks are known as Intranets (typically within the boundaries of a single corporate or organizational network) or Extranets (where known third-party networks are also included in the mix). They tend to be applied to B-2-B relationships, and feature resources/utilities over design and consumer elements.
Needs and requirements vary by individual entities and industries, but the general impetus behind a closed network is the sensitivity of the data being exchanged. While the internet provides a perfect means of communication, the public forum of the World Wide Web is not always appropriate. As such, intranet/extranet sites take advantage of online flexibilty/browsing while maintaining certain thresholds of security. Aptinet has developed a number of customized, full-featured networks where security protocols vary from simple password protection through to full encryption.
