Email marketing is a form of direct marketing, where electronic messages are sent to an audience of new, exisiting, or prospective customers. The purpose of these emails vary greatly, but basically are used to:
- Sell a product
- Enhance a company image
- Promote product awareness
Email marketing has become extremely popular over the last few years for many reasons, but primarily because:
- It is far less expensive than traditional advertising (TV, print, direct mail, and radio)
- It has an immediate result. Emails can be sent in seconds rather than traditional mailings or ad placements that have inherent delays.
- It "pushes" content to the user, rather than the user coming to get it.
